Shipping During the Holiday Season and Actsoft Solutions

In 2017, UPS estimated that they’d be shipping nearly 750 million packages during the course of the entire holiday season. This year, that number isn’t likely to drop. With a steadily increasing number of gifts being given around Christmastime, companies that are in charge of package transportation must use technology and precision to ensure that there are as few delivery hiccups as possible.

At Actsoft, we engineer digital solutions that help streamline operations for companies in industries like transportation for both the driver and the administrator. By making things easier for all employees involved in the shipping process, our solutions help delivery businesses maintain efficiency, even during their busiest quarters of the year. Two applications in particular that we offer are essential for transportation companies: ELD and GPS Tracking.

Powered by VisTracks, our Electronic Logging Device (ELD) solution enables delivery drivers to focus strictly on safe and efficient driving by automatically logging their active time behind the wheel. Rather than having to manually fill out nationally mandated forms for Hours of Service (HOS), semi-truck operators can reach their destinations as quickly and safely as possible with instant documentation preventing their attention from being diverted toward cumbersome paperwork tasks. Information about rest compliance that’s automatically logged on a driver-by-driver basis is readily available to administrators and can help reduce their business’s potential to incur regulatory fines.

On the administrative side, our solutions’ GPS Tracking feature enables location positioning to help keep cargo and trucks safe, even if they become separated from one another. Track semi-truck trailers, the vehicles themselves, and even employees during working hours with accuracy from our software’s live view map. Monitoring all mobile operations via GPS technology helps keep fuel usage optimized, package containers secure, and drivers accountable.

With the power of Actsoft solutions, transportation businesses can maintain ultimate control on their operations. Cut costs for your delivery company and keep efficiency high throughout the frenzied pace of the holiday season using our mobile management software.

How to Best Manage Your ELD Woes

If you’re running a fleet business that involves long-haul driving, then you’re well familiar with the rules and regulations that came about with the federal mandate requiring electronic logging devices (ELD) to automate the tracking of hours of service (HoS) in order to prevent drivers from exceeding too many hours logged within any given day. While the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has indicated that the number of violations is steadily decreasing thanks to the new mandate, a couple of unexpected trends are beginning to pick up.

Increase in drivers speeding.
Because the length of time is what is mandated, but business owners tend to be more concerned with getting from point A to point B as quickly as possible, some drivers can feel pressured to increase their speed, taking them across the threshold into unsafe driving territory. This can be especially true if, say, they find themselves caught amid rush-hour traffic and subsequently feel the pressure to make up for lost time.

With our software, dispatchers can better help drivers plan out their trips to avoid traffic delays, alleviating them from some of that stress. But it’s also on management to be watchful of drivers’ speed. Our solution monitors driver speeds and alerts can be sent whenever a violation occurs. While driving a little over the speed limit may help your driver get to their destination faster, according to the American Trucking Associations, speed is the contributing factor to 18 percent of fatal crashes where a truck driver is found at fault. Lives can’t be replaced and the cost to replace equipment (plus the potential legal fees) far outweigh the cost of drivers showing up later than expected.

Searching for safe parking.
Long-haul drivers can’t just pull over anywhere they want. When it comes time to rest up, they need to find a safe spot where they can set up shop. This can push drivers to the limit as they try to find the ideal location while also attempting to maximize their hours, and could result in a violation of HoS since there is little room for flexibility. It’s important to plan out routes as efficiently as possible to make sure they are able to pull over in a location they’d feel safe camping out for an extended period of time.

While there are those who are proponents of loosening the rigidity of HoS for certain circumstances, the fact of the matter is that right now, there is no room for flexibility. So why not turn to our suite of tools, which includes an ELD solution, to help make sure you aren’t left paying hefty penalties? Together, with some strategic planning, we can maximize your drivers’ routes and keep your business from getting fined. Your bank account will thank you.

The Advanced Aspects of GPS Tracking in Encore

The GPS Tracking feature in Encore is a multifaceted tool that uses advanced solutions such as Breadcrumb Trails, Traffic Overlay, and Geofences to provide companies with ways to save. Each of these aspects do this by working to increase efficiency and security even further for businesses that employ a mobile workforce.

Breadcrumb Trails

Past routes that mobile employees have taken to job sites are recorded and presented on Encore’s map through Breadcrumb Trails. Any time a driver travels to a location during working hours, their business vehicle’s position is picked up and archived in the system’s memory. Company supervisors can then go back and review trip histories to enhance accountability and verify job completion.

Traffic Overlay

At the beginning of each work day, administrators in a company’s home office can also use Traffic Overlay to see near real-time congestion patterns on roadways. By identifying the most traffic-heavy routes to job sites prior to travel, companies can help their mobile employees avoid excessive idling, save time and fuel, and reach customer locations faster.

Geofences

Geofences help businesses improve fleet and asset security, employee accountability, and quality control, all at once. These are digital boundaries that can be custom constructed on Encore’s live view map around job sites in the field. Geofences are used in tandem with Alerts to electronically notify managers whenever an asset, employee, or vehicle enters or exits set perimeters, providing an extra layer of surveillance for their valuable equipment. In addition to better theft prevention, geofence monitoring helps organizations ensure that their workers are arriving to and leaving assignment destinations right on schedule.

These three aspects of GPS Tracking in Encore give companies like yours even more ways to save time and money. Through providing increased detail about your workforce’s daily routine, Breadcrumb Trails, Traffic Overlay, and Geofences can help you run a more effective operation.

Feature Study: ELD on Encore

Encore’s Electronic Logging Device (ELD) solution helps businesses in the transportation industry easily keep track of the information that they need to regularly document and report. Powered by VisTracks, our ELD application is a powerful tool that can automatically log important data regarding drivers’ active time behind the wheel.

Why is documentation important?

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) put in place Hours of Service (HoS) regulations that transportation companies must abide by, as a means of enhancing highway safety. HoS mandates set the total amount of time that commercial drivers can spend on the road before they’re required to rest, making documentation of these hours off critical for remaining in compliance.

Manually logging driver data takes time, isn’t always accurate, and doesn’t provide the detailed analytics that our ELD solution does. From Encore’s web portal, you can see reports of your truck drivers’ drive times and hours off, all from an integrated system that automatically captures and displays relevant data.

Benefits of ELD on Encore

ELD on Encore offers multiple benefits to transportation companies that can help them save both time and money. Costly fines can stem from HoS infractions; however, our ELD solution is able to provide your team with all the tools it needs to organize and automatically record its data, lowering your potential to incur regulatory fees like these.

Encore’s ELD solution uses a simple combination of hardware mounted into company vehicles and back end software to automatically document driver logs. This tandem consistently works to provide your drivers with extra time during daily working hours, allowing them to only focus on safe, efficient driving.

Actsoft is constantly developing new solutions to help transportation companies like yours enhance cost efficiency, improve safety, and save resources. Use our ELD solution to take the guesswork out of remaining in compliance with HoS mandates today.

ELD: The Future of Transportation

Automation is the name of the game in 2018.

Businesses are increasingly in search of ways to take old, cumbersome processes and revamp them into contemporary forces of efficiency, and transportation companies in particular are a prime example of this trend. Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) are becoming viewed as the true future of the shipping industry as a whole.

Demand for reliable ELD technology stems from the need to standardize the methods in which transportation companies go about complying with federal regulations. The Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration (FMCSA) has instituted mandates called Hours of Service (HoS) that require corporations to record and report certain information about their employees’ driving data. During roadside inspections, operators of semi-trucks must meet certain criteria derived from their logged information, particularly as it relates to drivers getting adequate amounts of rest. These HoS regulations were designed in part to help improve road safety, and reduce the potential for drivers to fall asleep at the wheel during lengthy cross-country travels.

If a corporation’s drivers don’t comply with HoS mandates, their business risks having to pay costly fines, or even worse: they may risk higher possibilities of car crashes involving employees. Injuries and lawsuits from roadway accidents are two things that all transportation companies seek to avoid as much as possible, which makes ELD an especially valuable tool of the 21st century.

ELD solutions help to improve operations for transportation companies by automating the logging of driver data, making it easier than ever for them to avoid HoS infractions. Our ELD solution is powered by VisTracks, and it relies on a unique software/hardware combination to track driving information. Through minimal training requirements, on-screen documentation tools, and easy-to-use administration features, our solution remains one of the most intuitive on the market.

With Actsoft’s fully FMCSA-certified ELD application, allow your company’s drivers to focus on driving safely and efficiently by digitizing their driving information. Let our solution eliminate the hassles of logging travel data, and in turn increase your team’s productivity, accuracy, and bottom line savings today.
